53 - 7000 Islands // Unveiling Asian Flavours in Alcohol

Siegfrid 'Siggy' Bacani joins Nathan and me on this episode to cover his business called 7000 Islands. They focus on Filipino craft beer, wine and spirits. Some highlights are the Ube Cream Liqueur and the Ube Lager. There will soon be a Pandan Liqueur available! They want to bring the best of Filipino flavours while also promoting Australian wines in the Philippines. We try the Ube Liqueur live and find out whether those wine snobs were onto something. I'm Siegfrid, I started 7000 Islands as I wanted to share my love of pairing Asian food with Aussie wine. Being Asian-Aussie is a big part of my story, and this is reflected in the name of my company ~ 7000 Islands.

7000 Islands is the number of islands both Australia (my adopted country) and The Philippines (the country of my birth) both have in common.

It's what both cultures have in common together, like the number of islands or our love of food and drink that we celebrate at 7000 Islands. I'm literally obsessed with finding the perfect harmony of Aussie food & wine with the tropical gastronomy of The Philippines and South East Asia.

I've always wanted to share with the world the flavours of The Philippines, and found aspects of our cuisine interesting - like how we celebrate the tastes of 'Sour', 'Bitter' and 'Umami' in our food and how this expresses differently when paired with Aussie wine.

After a professional career in drinks from Bacardi and Jack Daniels in London, United Kingdom, to Moët Hennessy the wine & spirits division of LVMH... I wanted to work to pursue my passion for our flavours and started blending wine (story for another day).

And I hope my story inspires you to follow your dreams and share what you love."
